MELBOURNE'S BEST COFFEE SHOPS
Melbourne is the godfather of cities with a specialty coffee culture, with international recognition for being a coffee capital and it is for good reason. The city is just teeming with cool coffee shops, buzzing with the smell of freshly ground espresso, the scream of milk frothing, and the hum of people chatting.
No matter where I am I am always keeping an eye out for the coolest independent cafes, and making mental notes (and map pins) about where I am going to get my next morning brew. Well, in Melbourne, it was more like were do I get my first morning brew, and then where do I get my second, and then where do I get my afternoon pick me up. For my sleep and my sanity I had to stop there… but you could go for days and days in Melbourne finding fantastic, indy coffee shops and over-caffeinating until you can no longer take it.
Here is my list of Melbournes best coffee shops. Believe me, I know this doesn’t even scratch the surface of all the quality coffee spots Melbourne has to offer.
You know how Australians seem to just have a cool factor to them… well their coffee shops absolutely do too. Melbourne’s little laneways are lined with cool cafes, with crowds of people spilling out, sipping on flat whites. 95% of Australian cafes are independently owned1 which drives the high standards of excellence in every cafe and every cup.
With just a few days in Melbourne, you can expect not to sleep because you will have had so much caffeine every day just trying to visit them all! These are some of my favourite cool coffee shops in Melbourne but this list could be 20+ long and I still wouldn’t have scratched the surface.
Can you be a Digital Nomad in Melbourne?
Naturally, not all coffee shops are going to be suitable for digital nomads to work from… I can say with confidence that the cities that have a wealth of cool cafes will always have at least a number that cater to the remote worker, where you can linger comfortably with wifi and outlets. Melbourne is famous for it’s hole in the wall cafes where table space or even chairs that aren’t milk crates can be hard to come by. If you have a simple set up and don’t need an outlet you should have some luck.
